(Digging Through a Garden)

Digging through a Garden is a series of modular, multi-piece textile, mixed media works. It is inspired by an Islamic garden’s layout, natural Arabic medicines and healing recipes. It engages with the long tradition of creating natural remedies from numerous Arabic plants, spices and flowers. These remedies have been used for healing purposes in Arabian peninsula since medieval times. “Digging through a garden” aims to create a dialogue in between past-present, nature-manmade, idealistic-realistic, seen–unseen by bringing attention to the healing power of nature both physically and mentally. It tries to find a new way of expressing our spiritual needs through nature; and to analyze and engage with Arabian flora and landscape to heal and purify our souls.
