(A Place In My Mind)

This series of works explore how we define landscapes by looking at the relationship between the constant ‘underneath’ and the changing surface. For the Turkish diaspora Turkish landscape is a nostalgic, temporal place which is lithic and unchanging. A landscape which only exists in the mind. For refugees fleeing war torn parts of the Middle East the Turkish landscape is imbued with hope, freedom and the potential of a better life. For those leaving Turkey for work in Europe the Turkish landscape is linked with a sense of desperation, a place which has had to be abandoned, but which will always be home. Landscape exist as home/abroad, paradise/hell, eden/nod.
